Artist Spotlight: Bam Interviews Pop Sensation Justin Garner ( @JustinGarner ) On Writing,Love, New Album, And More

This has been a really good week for me and Bam vs Media. One of the reasons is i got to do a interview with one of my new favorite artists which goes by the name of Justin Garner. Below is the quick question i got to ask which lets you learn more about him as a person and as an artist. Also Make sure you get his latest Project I AM which drops tomorrow on Itunes and Amazon.

BVM: WHAT'S THE FIRST SONG YOU EVER REMEMBER HEARING?

JG: Hmmm let me think. The first song I remember paying attention to as a child was “Sail On” by The Commodores.

BVM: WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO LATELY?

JG: I’ve been listening to the Civil Wars, Lana Del Rey, Chris Brown, The Arrows, Maroon 5, and Kanye.

BVM: WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE ALBUM BY ANOTHER ARTIST?

JG: Easy. I have two though. Confessions by Usher and Rocksteady by No Doubt.

BVM: HAVE YOU EVER BEEN COMPARED TO ANY OTHER MALE VOCALISTS?

JG: YES! I get compared to Usher, Jason Derulo, Chris Brown, and Trey Songz. Not mad at all about being compared to some of the best voices in the game. With my new album I Am, I want people to get to know me and who I am personally and vocally.

BVM: WHAT CAN PEOPLE EXPECT AT YOUR LIVE SHOWS?

JG: People can expect a great live show with dancers, backing band, and then some intimate selections with just me and a piano or guitar. I was raised in the Baptist church so I’m no stranger to live singing and I’m very passionate about making sure attendees can feel every emotion I’m feeling.

BVM: WHAT SONG DO YOU LOVE TO PERFORM THE MOST AND WHY?

JG: The song that I love to perform the most is “Boomerang”. “Boomerang” is a very personal song to me and it came from a very vulnerable place when I wrote it. I’ve been all around the world, Los Angeles, Tokyo, London, New York, etc. and every time I left my mind was on music and business, but my heart was with that special lady.

BVM: WHAT SONG IS YOUR FAVORITE ON YOUR NEWEST PROJECT "I AM"?

JG: My favorite record on I Am is “Assassin”. I love it because it’s so different for me. Writing wise, vocally, and concept wise. It’s my first big concept record and focuses on an issue I’ve never tackled before.

BVM: HOW HAVE YOU MATURED AS AN ARTIST?

JG: I Am begins with “Cherry Bomb” first for a reason. I want people to listen to the record that got me noticed and take a musical journey to the last song so that you can hear the growth in my artistry. I know my lane. I know my sound. And I care about every fan, supporter, photo shoot, album/single art modification, outfit, beat production choice, etc. I am very hands on with everything that I do. I think the biggest misconception is that there are like 15 people writing my songs, telling me what to sound like, how to speak and act, but is not like that at all. It is solely me and a small team of some the hardest working people I know. #TeamJG

BVM: HAVE YOU EVER WRITTEN ANYTHING AND THEN
DECIDED IT WAS TOO HARSH?

JG: Not really. I believe in what is expressed the first go round shouldn’t be modified. Music is all about expression. “Disintegrate” from my first self-released album Take It from Here, is actually about my ex. I thought after recording it, “Too harsh?” Naw *laughs*.

BVM: WHAT FEELINGS INSPIRED YOU TO WRITE PAPER HEART?

JG: Breaking up with the love of your life, knowing it’s your fault, and understanding there is nothing that can be done to fix it. That’s what led to “Paper Heart”.

BVM: HOW CAN YOUR FANS KEEP UP WITH YOU AND UPCOMING EVENTS?

JG: My fans can keep up with me at http://www.justingarner.com! And on twitter @JustinGarner! Facebook as well http://facebook.com/officialjustingarner! I always retweet, reply, and respond so please by all means drop me a line!

BVM: WHAT'S NEXT FOR YOU?

JG: I’ll be in NYC in a few weeks for another huge meeting. Fans can expect to see some music videos on the way Amazon.com featured me as an Amazon.com: Artist on the rise, and IndabaMusic.com and iTunes Japan have recently featured me on their sites. So what’s next…the takeover! #JGArmy

Once again I would like to thank Justin Garner for doing a interview with Bam Vs Media and also dropping off the new "I Am" album to us. The entire project knocks from start to finish and really does show his growth as an artist. I would def recommend listening to Unbreakable (stripped) the vocal arrangement is sick. And one more thing unlike most artist JG does respond to his fans on twitter so feel free to hit him up

Artist to look out for: Jasmyne Hinson

The “entertainer bug” bit Jasmyne at the age of 2 when she sang her first solo in church. A couple years later, she was enrolled in performing arts school where the seed of her stage presence was planted. At the age of 15 the cultivation of her studio experience began at PARC studios with her first manager Dexter Redding, the son of the late Otis Redding. Throughout her high school years Jasmyne began to work with a diverse group of producers, engineers and writers. Honing in on her niche as an artist, most of her free time was spent in the studio. While adapting to their styles of working she added to her work ethic and accuracy in the studio. Upon graduating from high school she spent her undergraduate years as a Theater major learning and exploring the worlds of jazz and musical theatre. She then began singing professionally with a myriad of artists, bands and musicians. It was quite clear that Jasmyne Hinson is much more than a session singer or just a staple in the choir stand.

Too Good at Goodbyes - Sam Smith (cover by @MattBloyd)

When ya new favorite voice covers one of ya favorite voices!!!! Thats exactly what happened when Matt Bloyd chose to cover Sam Smith's new song "Too Good At Goodbyes" it feels a lot warmer then the original that haunts us when Sam sings it. We love how Matt put his own  twist on it and showed off that killer range that made us a fan from the  first day we heard him. Here is what Matt had to say about choosing the cover I am a huge fan of Sam Smith's voice and his artistry. After a two year hiatus, Sam is back with "Too Good at Goodbyes" and I could not be more excited. He's truly an inspiration. When I heard this song I KNEW I had to cover it and got right on it. Hope you love my take on this JAM.
