If your reading this one i know your probly like what is stammer? But i know there is a few of you that do know what it is due to you having it or knowing someone who does. But for those of you who dont know Here goes: Stammering, or better known as stuttering, is a problem with the normal flow and timing of speech. Attempts to say something may be interrupted by repetition of a syllable, prolongation of the sound or a complete block on speech.
There is often embarrassment about having a stammer. People who stammer may find they are quite fluent if they sing, whisper or speak as part of a group.
Recent research has found that some people who stammer may have difficulty coordinating the muscles for speech and need more time to speak. Now why is my blog about this you may ask? If ya guessed because i have this you are correct and I feel it should have more light shown onto this Impedement.
The symptoms of stammering is a person may have problems initiating speech or flowing from one syllable to the next but all stammers are different. The easiest way to hide it(an i am guilty of this myself) is by simply not speaking at all. A reason for not speaking at all at times is because people can be mean/make jokes because you speak differently, so to avoid that some just dont speak at all. In some cases a person with stammers may develop into a tic or what is called the shakes.
For my lady readers you are somewhat safe from this impedement because It's four times more common in boys than in girls. In families where a person has a stutter, there's an increased risk that other members will have the same problem.
There is no cure for a stammer, but there are certain things that can be done to make a difference. One simple approach that helps me is to speak more slowly. Other ways can be formal speech therapy, development of social skills, self awareness, assertiveness training and communication skills.
